How it works

Your money grows two ways at once: the starting balance compounds, and each monthly deposit starts compounding from the month it lands. The future value after n months is current×(1+r)n + monthly×(((1+r)n−1)/r) with monthly compounding. Instead of guessing month by month, the calculator solves that equation for n directly using logarithms, then rounds up — because a partial month still takes a whole month. Bumping your monthly contribution shortens the wait far more than chasing a slightly higher rate.
