How it works

GPA is a credit-weighted average, not a simple average of grades. Each letter grade maps to grade points — A+ and A are 4.0, A− is 3.7, B+ is 3.3, B is 3.0, down through D− at 0.7 and F at 0.0. Multiply each course’s points by its credit hours, add those up, and divide by total credit hours. That weighting is why a 4-credit class moves your GPA more than a 1-credit lab.
