About this game

Freedoom is a free, community-made game built for the DOOM engine — all of its levels, graphics, sounds and music were created from scratch and released under a free license, as a drop-in replacement for the commercial DOOM data files. This page runs Freedoom Phase 1 (the complete first game) on an open-source port of id Software’s DOOM engine, compiled to WebAssembly, so the whole game runs locally in your browser tab. Nothing is installed and no game data is uploaded anywhere; the engine and data are fetched from a public CDN when you press play, and the data file is integrity-checked in your browser against the official Freedoom 0.13.0 release before the game starts.

Credits & licenses. Game data: Freedoom 0.13.0, © 2001–2024 contributors to the Freedoom project, released under a BSD-style license. Engine: WebAssembly DOOM by Viktor Lázár (based on Chocolate Doom and Crispy Doom; the DOOM engine is © id Software), released under the GNU General Public License v2.0; prebuilt module via the wasmDOOM project.
