How it works

US kitchen volumes are all defined off the customary cup of about 236.588 milliliters: one cup holds exactly 16 tablespoons, 48 teaspoons, or 8 fluid ounces, so those ratios are exact by definition rather than measured. Metric units slot in through the cup's milliliter value, which is why a tablespoon lands on 14.787 ml and a fluid ounce on 29.574 ml. To convert, the tool first turns your entry into milliliters and then divides into each target unit. One caution for bakers: these are volume conversions, so they work for water, milk, and oil, but a "cup of flour" in grams depends on the ingredient's density and needs a weight conversion instead.
