How it works

Characters counts every letter, digit, space, and line break — the raw length of your text. Characters without spaces drops all whitespace, which is what many writing platforms and SMS counters use. Words are counted by splitting on whitespace, and lines by splitting on line breaks. Reading time assumes an average adult speed of about 200 words per minute, so a 400-word email reads as roughly two minutes. Everything updates live as you type, and nothing you enter ever leaves your browser.
