How it works

The mean is the sum of all values divided by how many there are — the everyday “average.” The median is the middle value of the sorted list (or the average of the two middle values when the count is even), which makes it resistant to outliers — one huge value barely moves it. The mode is the most frequent value; if every value appears once, there is no mode. Together with the min, max, and count, these three paint a quick picture of any dataset’s center and spread.
